Description
Wells-next-the-sea is situated along the North Norfolk Coast, and is one of the most attractive towns and the only one to remain a commercially viable port. It features many narrow lanes nicely sheltered from the offshore winds and makes a very good base for exploring the surrounding coastline.
Apparently, the name of Wells comes from the old word 'welles' meaning a clear spring of water, which Wells used to have many.
On the sandy beach of the Wells-next-the-sea, there is a row of colourful stilted huts and seals basking on the sandbanks. Set in north Norfolkâs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Wells is part of the largest coastal nature reserve in England and Wales.
